Division Algorithm for Polynomials

If p(x) and g(x) are any two polynomials with g(x) ≠ 0, then we can find polynomials q(x) and r(x) such that p(x) = g(x) × q(x) + r(x).

Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder

Steps to divide Polynomials

  1. Arrange terms of dividend & divisor in decreasing order of their degrees
  2. Use Euclid formula to divide

E.g.: Divide 2x2 + 3x + 1 by x + 2.

2x2 + 3x + 1 = (x + 2)(2x – 1) + 3                                  {  p(x) = g(x) × q(x) + r(x) }
