  • HYPOTHALAMUS
  • It is a basal part of diencephalon, forebrain.
  • Regulates a wide range of body functions.
  • Neurosecretory cells produce hormones which regulate synthesis and secretion of pituitary hormones.
  • Two types of hormones – releasing and inhibitory
  • Releasing Hormones – stimulate secretion of pituitary hormones. E.g. GnRH
  • Inhibitory Hormone – inhibits secretions of pituitary hormones. E.g. Somatostatin
