Increasing population: There is increasing demand for construction of houses, shops, offices, roads and pavements. Due to which open area like parks and playgrounds have decreased. Hence, the seepage of rainwater into the ground has also decreased. Huge amount of water is required for construction work.
Increasing industries: Water is used by all industries. As the industries are increasing continuously so there is more need of water.
Agricultural activities: Majority of farmers in India depend upon rains for irrigating their crops. There are canals at some places for irrigation. Due to erratic rainfall, canals also lack water. So farmers depend on ground water for irrigation. Increase in population has increased pressure on agriculture. This results in depletion of water table.
