Class 8 Biology Reaching the Age of Adolescence Hormones involved in Metamorphosis

Hormones involved in Metamorphosis

The conversion of larva into an adult by undergoing through drastic changes is called metamorphosis.

Let us consider the example of transformation of a tadpole into a frog.

As a tadpole develops into a frog it looks very different from the late tadpole and has different properties fom tadpole.

This process of metamorphosis in frogs is controlled by the thyroid gland that releases thyroxine in the presence of iodine in water.

In the absence of iodine in water tadpoles cannot convert from tadpole to adult frogs.

Whereas the process of metamorphosis in insects is controlled by the insect hormones.
