Class 8 Maths Squares and Square Roots Introduction

Introduction

We all know that a square is a quadrilateral with all the 4 sides equal and all 4 angles equal to 90 degree.

Area of square = side * side

AB = BC= CD= DA= 1cm

Hence area of ABCD = 1 *1 = 1 cm. sq.

If we make a bigger square of side = 3cm,

Area of square PQRS = 3 *3= 9cms.

In a square of side = 5 cms,

Area of square = 5 * 5 = 25 cm. sq.

All the numbers i.e. 1, 9, 25 and so on are called squares.

  • Numbers which can be expressed as the product of a number with itself are called square numbers or perfect squares.
  • In other words, square numbers are obtained by squaring a number.
