Class 8 Maths Visualising Solid Shapes Faces, Edges and Vertices

Faces, Edges and Vertices

Let us consider a cube.

Each side of the cube is a flat surface called a flat face or simply a face.

When two faces meet at a line segment then it is called an edge.

Three edges meet at a point called a vertex.

Each of these solids is made up of polygonal regions which are called its faces. These faces meet at edges which are line segments and the edges meet at vertices which are points. Such solids are called polyhedrons.

 Regular polyhedrons:

A polyhedron is said to be regular if its faces are made up of regular polygons and the same number of faces meet at each vertex.

Here, figure 1 is a regular polyhedron whereas figure 2 is not polyhedron.
